An environment with static IP routing is suitable for small, static interconnected IP networks with single paths. Static networks are those that do not change. In practice, static routing is usually found in home networks and networks of small companies with up to 20 users. Cheap routers usually only support static routing.
Using a routing protocol in a slow global communication channel is pretty pointless. Instead, a single default route is set on the router of the division's office, ensuring that all traffic that does not have destinations in the division's network is transmitted to the main office.
The main disadvantages of static routing are the lack of fault tolerance and the cost of administration.
If for some reason the router or communication channel stops functioning, static routers do not detect the failure and do not inform other network devices about it. This problem is significant mainly for large, interconnected networks of large organizations; small office networks (with two routers and three local area networks) do not experience such difficulties often enough to consider deploying a topology with multiple paths and a dynamic routing protocol.
If one of the networks is added or removed in the combined network, routes to this network must be added or deleted manually. When adding a new router, you need to set up all the necessary routes correctly.
